Since the advent of information technology, Internet marketing has long been dominating the virtual world of online business, making notable profits than what their real counterpart can produce.
However, the Internet also has its threats and disasters; thus, Internet marketing has its own problems, too. Everyone, from single users to government agencies, universities, or major corporations, is at risk. Hackers and crackers out there target people, at different levels, from the theft information to the hacking of sites, the invasion of privacy, and the breach of confidentiality and integrity.
And so, for people who have always thought that Internet marketing is the next best thing to success, you can be?well, wrong. There are many dark sides of Internet marketing that you never thought would have existed. This is because most people who are involved with Internet marketing as so much involved with profit-making that they do not find time to really comprehend the nature of Internet marketing.
Chances are, they only realize the problem when something bad has already occurred and that there is no other way to solve them but undergo the long process of system recovery and business recuperation.
And so, to further prevent any malady in your online business, you should know first it dark side for you to realize that there are things that should not just be taken for granted.
Here are some of the reasons why you have to be aware of some possible dilemmas with regards to Internet marketing and why you should protect, at all cost, your business and your information system.
1. Illegal transactions
One of the common problems with Internet marketing is the dishonest transactions. Because some people are so much engrossed with ways how to gain profit online, they would use some fraudulent activities just so they can get an edge over the others.
It is a ?get rich quick? syndrome that most people fall into the hands of their predators. And because online transactions are really hard to trace, even with all these technologies and everything, fraudulent people can easily get away with the crimes that they have committed.
In most cases, people who are into Internet marketing would use emails to reach the market that they wan tot saturate. This is the reason why spamming had been considered as an illegal activity as far as the Internet and the privacy of an individual is concerned.
2. Not all businesses are made for the Internet
Many people thought that because the Internet is such a viable and feasible means of gaining profits for their businesses, they tend to conclude that Internet marketing is a God-sent angel ready to help them boost their productivity and ensure business success.
What they do not know is that not all businesses are created equal and that not all of them are suitable for the virtual world of Internet marketing.
As they say, there is always an exception to the rule, and there are some businesses that are not appropriate in Internet marketing. These businesses are far better off with the usual marketing strategies than with the popular Internet marketing.
In reality, there are businesses that would profit better if sales transactions are done through face-to-face business deals.
3. It is a serious thing
There are people who just take Internet marketing for granted. They though that since Internet marketing is such an easier and cheaper way to boost productivity, many people rely so much on the technology that everybody is crazy with.
The problem is online business and Internet marketing entail serious business transactions, and unless you become professional with your marketing strategies, people who visit your site and those that receive your emails will never take you seriously.
In any deals and transactions, good impressions with the consumers are the best strategies to gain attention and public acceptance. You have to know how to target your niche market, the right marketing strategy to use, and the proper way to utilize them.
Boiled down, Internet marketing is not for everybody. It does not offer nippy fixes to your business problems and would still require greater attention than you would do with the usual marketing strategy.
In reality, the Internet is increasingly becoming exposed to frauds and theft. Web sites and users on the Net in general are exploited in numerous ways. Hence, be wary of Internet marketing because what you though can do you good can, in fact, do you more harm.
But there is a very real and very nasty dark side to the internet. And parents need to be aware of what's going on behind their backs.
Here's a list of the five biggest online danger zones that most parents don't know about:
#1 Threat: Pedophiles
While most parents are aware that pedophiles exist, and most parents are aware that many pedophiles use the internet as a tool to meet underage partners, many parents are still unaware of how widespread the problem is.
Authorities estimate that at least one in five children have been sexually approached online. And just because you know about MySpace, don't think that you've got all your bases covered. Pedophiles can contact your children through chat sessions, forums, email, even through some online games.
#2 Threat: Pornography
Although pedophiles gets the most media coverage, online pornography is a massive problem in itself. It's ridiculously easy for kids of any age to find soft core and hardcore pornographic pictures, audio clips and movies online.
Blocking harmful websites isn't enough. Kids can find pornographic images using the image search on any major search engine. And they can download pornographic movies using the same programs known for download-able music.
#3 Threat: Online Gambling
The lure of easy money attracts many kids and teens to try their hand at online gambling. Although technically illegal in the United States, many off-shore sites make it easy for anyone to get set up with an account and start gambling.
Gambling is especially addictive for young teens and kids. And because often times these kids will be gambling with their parent's credit cards, the money doesn't feel real to them and they can lose thousands of dollars before you even notice anything on your bill.
#4 Threat: Hate Groups
Not many people are talking about this subject but online hate groups are targeting your kids. Traditionally, the KKK and other hate groups would recruit from high schools, targeting disaffected youth and distributing literature. But parents and teachers often impede, making it difficult for these hate groups to get their propaganda into the hands of their intended audience.
But online, it's easier than ever for hate groups to spread their message of hate. Now, there are hate forums, hate chat boards and even a million dollar a year record label that distributes hate music.
#5 Threat: Cyber-Bullying
Remember when bullies stole somebody's lunch money and that was the worst of it? Things have changed. Now, kids of all sizes can take part in Cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is the practice of harassing or threatening another person using the internet.
Kids can be especially cruel and there are already cases of suicide reported due to cyber-bullying.

But no matter how many danger zones I reveal, parents will never be able to keep up. The internet is changing so rapidly, and kids adapt faster than most parents.
So the important thing is to always be aware of what your child is doing online. For some parents, that means keeping a close eye on the computer. For other parents (especially working or busy parents), you may want to invest in a monitoring service.
